Insider look at technology - Girls' Day 2016 and occupation taster course at Dallmer

Developing and designing ideas, milling and assembling, inspecting, warehousing and shipping - work activities in the industrial sector are varied and extremely diverse. 12 youngsters between 10 and 14 were recently given a first impression at Dallmer with an introduction to technology on Girls' Day 2016 - and an engraved key fob as a small gift and token of appreciation.

Girls' Day is a promotional day held each year, also known as "Future Day". Its aim is to interest girls in traditionally male-dominated occupations in the fields of technology, trade, IT and natural sciences and offer early encouragement and assistance in vocational orientation.

Dallmer used this practical training day to open its doors for 8 girls - and for 4 boys: Anna, Annika, Anna, Carolin, Gina-Maria, Isabell, Lara, Louisa and Leon, Luca, Morten and Nils – the latter also taking advantage of the occupation taster course to gain an insight into what it's like to work in the industrial sector. The youngsters came from the following schools in Arnsberg and the surrounding area: FrÖbelschule, Agnes-Wenke-Schule, Realschule am Eichholz, Realschule Vogelbruch, Ursulinenrealschule Werl and Conrad von Ense Schule.

As in 2015, the "Future Day" at Dallmer was prepared, organised and hosted by Lisa Vielhaber, a trainee in her 3rd year, this year ably supported by her male colleagues, Dennis Georgoudious, Hendrik LÖser and Emre Myanci.

The Dallmer team had prepared an exciting and varied programme. After the company presentation, the "Development + Design" department showed how a product idea is developed on the computer. This was followed by an exciting introduction to the modern milling machines in our toolmaking department, where the youngsters were able to watch how their gift-to-be – a key fob engraved with their name – could be created out of a single piece of metal. They then got to take a closer look at the art of plastics processing, followed by quality testing in the laboratory, assembly and distribution and warehouse logistics.

The work activities are just as varied and exciting as an apprenticeship at Dallmer. As well as the traditionally male-dominated occupations, such as tool mechanic, warehouse clerk, process mechanic for plastics and rubber technology, Dallmer also offers apprenticeships for industrial clerks.

All in all, it was an extremely interesting Future Day at Dallmer. To be continued.
